KUALA LUMPUR, 1 OCTOBER 2026 – The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) and the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCS) today marked a new chapter in their longstanding relationship with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.
As two closely linked economies, Malaysia and Singapore share significant flow of business activities with companies operating in one market may also have presence or commercial interest in the other, while developments in technology and digital markets continue to reshape the way goods and services are offered across borders. Against this backdrop, the MoU provides MyCC and CCS with a framework to deepen cooperation in areas of common interest. This includes the exchange of information and experience, knowledge sharing, capacity building, technical cooperation and engagement on enforcement matters involving cross border dimensions, subject at all times to the respective laws and confidentiality requirements of both nations.
Beyond enforcement cooperation, the MoU provides opportunities for officials from both authorities to exchange perspectives on developments in competition law and policy, share institutional experience and build expertise in areas of mutual interest enabling both authorities to benefit from each other’s experience while continuing to develop approaches that respond to the circumstances in their respective markets.
The MoU was signed by YBhg. Datuk Haji Iskandar bin Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of MyCC and Mr. Alvin Koh, Chief Executive of CCS. The signing was witnessed by YBhg. Dato’ Seri Mohd Sayuthi Bakar, Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and Dr. Beh Swan Gin, Permanent Secretary of Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI).
The MoU marks MyCC’s fifth international MoU and represents another important milestone in MyCC’s efforts to expand and deepen its engagement with competition authorities internationally. Such international cooperation has become increasingly important as competition authorities encounter conduct and market developments that may not be confined neatly within national borders.
YBhg. Datuk Haji Iskandar Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of MyCC described the MoU as an important progression in the relationship between MyCC and CCS.
“Strong competition enforcement is built not only on the laws we administer but also the strength of the institutions entrusted to enforce them. For MyCC, this MoU is an opportunity to look beyond our own experience, learn from different approaches and continue raising the standard of how we carry out our mandate for the benefits of the rakyat. Therefore, I am confident that today’s signing will provide the foundation for an even more meaningful relationship between MyCC and CCS in the years to come,” said Datuk Haji Iskandar Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of MyCC.
